Day one: Arrived in Spain safe and sound

Hola from Madrid! We had a long day/night to finally arrive in Spain, but we are here safe and sound.
Thanks to Coach Shelley for driving a van to the airport and Coach Endler's sister, Kathleen, in picking up my car at the airport to make the departure smooth.
We had an uneventful flight from Newark to Lisbon, and then needed every second to catch our connecting flight to Madrid! Natalie and I had to chug our water bottles in front of customs, while the rest of the group oblivious to our fate, headed to the gate/bus. We traversed on the bus to a puddle jumper plane from Lisbon to Madrid. Though the weather was a bit ominous, we arrived safely to meet Sallie, from Sports Tours and Pedro, our guide from Spain and Portugal. A short bus ride into Madrid had us at our hotel. It is a great hotel, located in the heart of the city, within walking distance of just about anything.
Despite our weary legs from lack of sleep, we exchanged our cash into Euros, had a team lunch and then walked much of the city of Madrid. We took the telefericio, cable car, for an aerial view of the city. It was spectacular and not for the faint of heart! It was a great way to start our time together.
Currently, most everyone has crashed early to get ready for our first game tomorrow. The coaches are winding down playing "Hearts",  prepping for the game and hoping for good weather tomorrow!
Thanks for all your support and see everyone soon. Coach Spirk
